President's Letter

Dear Lanier Families,

Welcome back to another great year at Lanier Middle School . If you are a new parent, I want to welcome you on behalf of the Lanier PTO. We are excited that you have chosen Lanier. If you are a returning parent, we look forward to continuing the programs that the PTO supports to make Lanier the wonderful learning community that it is.

The funds from the PTO are used to provide technology enhancements throughout the campus, such as installing wireless capacity and provide curriculum support and professional development for our faculty and staff. We are also partnering with HISD and the Lanier Foundation to renovate the athletic fields and build a jogging/walking trail to safely promote the health and fitness of our students. We are also pursuing initiatives to facilitate communication with all aspects of our parent, student, and business communities. The Lanier parent and corporate community has generously supported the PTO’s initiatives with necessary funds.

Volunteers from the PTO support Lanier with their time and talents as well. Parents publish the Purple Page, which provides weekly updates for parents and students. Lanier parents manage the PTO website, facilitating further communication with an even broader community. Throughout the year, there are many opportunities to build relationships between staff and parents. The PTO hosts a Back to School event for students and parents the week before school begins. A Welcome Back parent coffee is held the first day of school. The annual Parent-Teacher party, held in the fall, is a relaxed setting to get to know the teachers who spend each day with your student. The PTO sponsors monthly luncheons to express appreciation for the efforts of the Lanier staff. Parents host tours of the school throughout the year, and welcome new students in the spring with an orientation and lunch. Parents also run the Snack Shack, Lanier Gear, and Uniform Store, providing many opportunities to interact with students.

There are many programs available; do not hesitate to volunteer for any PTO activity that interests you! It is a great way to meet other parents, and participating in your child’s education, especially during these crucial middle school years, is always time well spent.

Sincerely,

Kelly Teague
PTO President
