As we wrap up this busy and wonderful year, I want to extend a huge thank you for your incredible support of our PTO. Your involvement and generosity make all the difference in creating a stronger school community.
A special thank you to everyone who contributed to our Holiday Gift Fund. Because of your generous donations, we were able to gift every teacher and staff member an Amazon gift card and a delicious coffee cake from Common Bond. They were truly touched by this gesture of appreciation!
Wishing you all a restful holiday season filled with joy, relaxation, and time to recharge. We look forward to an exciting new year ahead!
Warmest regards,
Katie Gould-Marks

Lanier Fun Fact

Lanier Spotlight
Ms. Pitt
Ms. Pitt is one of Lanier's 7th grade Assistant Principals. This is her 2nd year at Lanier and 14th year in education. Ms. Pitt has many responsibilities on campus. She is in charge of all federal and state compliance, head of the math and movement (dance and karate) departments, over all discipline and oversees Lanier's attendance. To say Ms. Pitt is busy is an understatement, always moving about the school, handling morning, afternoon and lunchroom duties, and stepping in where needed. On Wednesdays after school she, along with Ms. Valle, Mr. Morris and Ms. Pathak, heads up Lanier's Study Club. Students can meet in the library after school from 4:15pm to 5:15pm where they will join Carnegie and DeBakey students to study. Students are welcome to ask for help in any subject along with actually learning how to study. It is a relaxed and fun environment. Ms. Pitt is always willing to help and steps in where needed. She enjoys getting in the classroom to teach and work with the students. Lanier's admin team is definitely a great group, working together to keep students on a great learning path.
Ms. Pitt received her Batchlor's Degree in Science from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth. She then received her Master's Degree in Education Leadership and Policies from the University of Texas at Arlington. She has taught middle school math along with high school resource math and ELA for special education. Ms. Pitt has also worked for the Department of Education in Dallas a Director of Student Support Services.
In her spare time Ms. Pitt enjoys hunting, snowboarding, golf and everything rodeo. She is also very service based and enjoys her philanthropy work. She is a boy mom to two very successful sons. Both are members of the United States Airforce. One son is an avionics engineer and the other son an ammunition specialist. She also enjoys time with her 2 dogs Jackson and Mio.
Ms. Pitt is such an important part of Lanier. She takes her responsibilities very seriously and wants students to always do their best, holding them to high standards. On the other hand, she also wants students to have a fun and memorable time at Lanier. One of her favorite times of the week is Friday during second lunch. If students have been good she let's them move the tables, put on school appropriate music, dance and play games. A little reward during lunch for a great week. And I believe she has been known to join in on a game of Uno herself.
Thank you, Ms. Pitt, for all your hard work and dedication to Lanier. Everything you do does not go unnoticed and you are truly appreciated. If you see her on campus, please reach out and take the time to tell her how much we love having her be a Purple Pup.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated to the holiday fund. All Lanier staff was gifted an entire chocolate or apple cake from Common Bond along with an Amazon gift card. We could not have done this without the support of all the amazing parents.
December lunch for all Lanier staff was extra special. The lounge was very festive with decorations. Everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch from Treebeards. On the menu was shrimp etouffee with rice, vegetarian red beans and rice, pesto chicken with peppers, a mixed salad and French bread. The dessert table included Treebeards brownies and butter cake bites along with gingerbread cookies from Moeller's bakery. And for a laugh, some corny gingerbread jokes.
The PTO online uniform store and the physical uniform store are closed during winter break. The normal uniform store hours will resume on Wednesday, January 7 from 11:30-1pm. Students can pick up pre-orders at this time.

Lanier MS Student and Family Handbook
If you have questions, please consider looking through the handbook. Lots of answers found here!!!
Family Handbook
We are pleased to share the 2025-2026 Lanier MS student and family handbook. This handbook serves to provide a normed resource for all Lanier MS stakeholders to reference for answers and information about some of the most common, but essential questions and areas of interest. While this is not an exhaustive document nor does it supersede HISD board policy, state, and federal education laws we hope you find it helpful and informative as you navigate your journey as a Purple Pup.
Lanier now has its very own textile recycling bin!
Green City Recycler is dedicated to keeping textiles out of landfills and giving them a second life.
Here’s how it works: For every pound of textiles donated by the Lanier community, the school earns 10 cents. That may not sound like much, but those small amounts really add up!
So, if you have any textiles (clothes, shoes, linens, etc.) that aren’t in good enough condition to donate elsewhere, don’t toss them, recycle them in the bin! Every item helps the environment and supports our school.
Bin location: Next to the bus entrance on Harold Street.
The safety of our students is very important to Lanier Middle School. Please review the drop-off and pick-up map carefully to assist us in assuring that this process runs smoothly. Please be patient, considerate, and careful. Your child’s safety and the safety of all of our children are at stake. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Please click the above button to view detailed information on Drop Off and Pick Up.
Please consider donating something from our wonderful teachers Amazon wishlists.
As always tissues and pencils are greatly appreciated too. You can drop them off at the front desk with the cluster and/or teacher you are giving them to.
Please note that the cutoff time for dropping off lunch to your students is 10:00am.
No Uber eats orders (or other food delivery services) will be accepted for students.
Please also note that the cutoff time for early pick up of students is 3:30pm. If you arrive past this time you will need to wait until official dismissal at 4:00pm to collect your student.
