Lanier Fact
When Lanier opened its doors 100 years ago, like schools of that time, it was segregated, and only white children were allowed to attend. In 1970 Lanier desegregated and children of all nationalities were welcomed through its doors. Lanier is now a beautifully diverse school that represents all cultures. A community of worldly students that get to celebrate their neighbors and cultures and learn to live in a beautifully diverse world.
Lanier Spotlight
Mr. Swann
Mr. Swann is Lanier's Choir Director. He has been at Lanier for 2 years and teaching a total of 7 years. He teaches all choir classes but as we know teachers have to multitask. Mr. Swann is getting the 7th and 8th grade choir students ready for UIL in sight reading and concert. The 6th grader choir students are preparing for competition at the Katy Coral Festival. There is also the Pop Show to get ready for, which is singing and dancing, and that will take place later this spring. A number of hours goes into getting Lanier's choir ready for these performances. Another major project for Mr. Swann is this year's school musical. This year along with Mr. Beserra, the drama teacher, Lanier is preforming Into the Woods Jr. Endless hours are going into practice to make sure students are ready for the upcoming March 25th and 26th performances. Fun Fact, both Mr. Swann and Mr. Beserra played the part of the baker in the musical years ago.
Mr. Swann is originally from Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in music education. He has taught in Arkansas, New York City and Texas. He has taught at all levels, elementary, middle and high school.
In his spare time Mr. Swann loves to read, swim and cook (tater tot casserole being his specialty). He also sings in the Voices of Houston Choir.
Mr. Swann loves working at Lanier. The students are so passionate and driven about choir. He loves to make class fun while learning and the students have grown leaps and bounds perfecting their skills. Thank you, Mr. Swann for leading choir students to their full potential and making the Lanier Choir top notch.

Lanier MS Student and Family Handbook
If you have questions, please consider looking through the handbook. Lots of answers found here!!!
Family Handbook
We are pleased to share the 2025-2026 Lanier MS student and family handbook. This handbook serves to provide a normed resource for all Lanier MS stakeholders to reference for answers and information about some of the most common, but essential questions and areas of interest. While this is not an exhaustive document nor does it supersede HISD board policy, state, and federal education laws we hope you find it helpful and informative as you navigate your journey as a Purple Pup.
Lanier now has its very own textile recycling bin!
Green City Recycler is dedicated to keeping textiles out of landfills and giving them a second life.
Here’s how it works: For every pound of textiles donated by the Lanier community, the school earns 10 cents. That may not sound like much, but those small amounts really add up!
So, if you have any textiles (clothes, shoes, linens, etc.) that aren’t in good enough condition to donate elsewhere, don’t toss them, recycle them in the bin! Every item helps the environment and supports our school.
Bin location: Next to the bus entrance on Harold Street.
Please consider donating something from our wonderful teachers Amazon wishlists.
As always tissues and pencils are greatly appreciated too. You can drop them off at the front desk with the cluster and/or teacher you are giving them to.
We have kicked off the 2025/26 Raise Your Paws for a Cause Annual Fund Campaign
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, Lanier continues to reach new heights. We’re proud to recognize the following corporate sponsors for their outstanding commitment to our school.

It is the responsibility of the coaches, sponsors, teachers, parents or team members of an event or activity to submit information to the Purple Page editor.
