Lanier Fun Fact
James Fred Hofheinz (born March 15, 1938) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the 55th mayor of Houston, Texas, from 1974 to 1978. He attended Lanier Middle School and Lamar High School.
Again, so many important people have come from the halls of Lanier. How many more mayors, authors, journalists or maybe even a president will be a purple pup?
Lanier Spotlight
Ms. Blossom
Ms. Blossom is Lanier's In School Suspension teacher. She has been with Lanier for 15 years and in education for 29 years. Before entering education, she was a radiation therapist who worked with cancer patients. When she began her journey in education she first taught in special education with the multi-impaired and autistic students. She then moved to the history classroom and now is in charge of the ISS students. She loves Lanier and from the minute she walked through the doors she knew this was the place for her. She loves the tradition and community and what Lanier stands for.
When she has students in her ISS class it is not a free day of do whatever classwork you have in isolation and then relax. Each student must fill out a contract about why they are there, reflect on the situation, and think about what they can do to not ever report back to ISS. She has the students schedule and goes by each class period. If the student has no work for that class, Ms. Blossom has work for them. She has assignments for each class including all languages, physical education, and even choir. She will email the teachers to verify the student's assignments and makes sure students are busy all day.
Ms. Blossom also has all lunch detention students. So anyone having all those tardies may be having lunch with Ms. Blossom. Again, not a fun filled lunch.
In her spare-time Ms. Blossom is very involved with her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta. Once a member you are a member for life. They are very involved with the youth members. They do scholarship work, civic education on voting, and a big sister's program just to name a few. Ms. Blossom also works with Kids Life at her church and helps care for her parents. She is very service oriented and has a huge heart.
Thank you, Ms. Blossom, for continuing to care for Lanier students. For instructing students who made a mistake and getting them back on track. You are a treasured Purple Pup.
What's Going on in the Halls?
6th grade science has been hard at work. Lots of projects showing the differences in the earth's spheres and explaining forces.
February Staff Appreciation Lunch

Lanier MS Student and Family Handbook
If you have questions, please consider looking through the handbook. Lots of answers found here!!!
Family Handbook
We are pleased to share the 2025-2026 Lanier MS student and family handbook. This handbook serves to provide a normed resource for all Lanier MS stakeholders to reference for answers and information about some of the most common, but essential questions and areas of interest. While this is not an exhaustive document nor does it supersede HISD board policy, state, and federal education laws we hope you find it helpful and informative as you navigate your journey as a Purple Pup.
Lanier now has its very own textile recycling bin!
Green City Recycler is dedicated to keeping textiles out of landfills and giving them a second life.
Here’s how it works: For every pound of textiles donated by the Lanier community, the school earns 10 cents. That may not sound like much, but those small amounts really add up!
So, if you have any textiles (clothes, shoes, linens, etc.) that aren’t in good enough condition to donate elsewhere, don’t toss them, recycle them in the bin! Every item helps the environment and supports our school.
Bin location: Next to the bus entrance on Harold Street.
Please consider donating something from our wonderful teachers Amazon wishlists.
As always tissues and pencils are greatly appreciated too. You can drop them off at the front desk with the cluster and/or teacher you are giving them to.
We have kicked off the 2025/26 Raise Your Paws for a Cause Annual Fund Campaign
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, Lanier continues to reach new heights. We’re proud to recognize the following corporate sponsors for their outstanding commitment to our school.
Ready to make a difference? Join our growing network of sponsors and help shape the future at Lanier.
The Lanier Middle School PTO publishes this weekly newsletter (The Purple Page) during the school year. Deadline for submission in the Purple Page is Wednesday at 5:00pm.
It is the responsibility of the coaches, sponsors, teachers, parents or team members of an event or activity to submit information to the Purple Page editor.
With so many competitions, performances, club happenings and sports events we rely on submissions.
We want to showcase Lanier students, teachers and staff in all they do.
