Lanier Fun Fact
Here's a fun fact about one of our Lanier teachers. When Coach Willis graduated from high school in 1995 he was 1 of a handful of students from the entire state of Michigan to be invited to play in the Listowel Invitational Basketball Tournament in Dublin Ireland. His team received 2nd place. What an exciting experience for a young graduate.
Lanier Spotlight
Mr. Cuevas
Mr. Cuevas is Lanier's 8th grade Assistant Principal and over the fine arts department. He joined Lanier about 2 months ago and is really enjoying his work. Although here for only 2 months, Mr. Cuevas is no stranger to education. He has been a teacher and administrator for 31 years. All 31 years being with HISD. His daily tasks are numerous, from teacher observations, parent meetings, discipline, hall monitoring or lending a hand to another staff member, he stays extremely busy.
Mr. Cuevas is originally from Chicago. At 5 years old his father decided to move the family to Texas to get away from all that snow shoveling. Here in Houston he attended Browning Elementary, Hogg Middle School and Reagan High School (now Heights High School). He attended the University of Houston Downtown and then the University of Houston central campus. Mr. Cuevas has his degree in interdisciplinary studies and his master's in educational management.
In his spare time Mr. Cuevas enjoys playing golf. He is also very family oriented and enjoys a weekend of hanging out and grilling. He has 2 daughters, Alyssa and Ashley. Alyssa is a teacher in HISD and Ashley is currently attending San Jacinto College. His wife Michelle is also in education. She is principal of Seguin Elementary, an HISD school.
Mr. Cuevas is a great addition to our Lanier family. With his years of experience, he brings so much to our campus. He wants to make sure parents and families know he is always here to help. If you have questions or concerns about your 8th grade student, please feel free to email him at ECUEVAS@houstonisd.org
If you see Mr. Cuevas on campus please welcome him to the Lanier family and let him know how happy you are to have him as a Purple Pup.

Lanier MS Student and Family Handbook
If you have questions, please consider looking through the handbook. Lots of answers found here!!!
Family Handbook
We are pleased to share the 2025-2026 Lanier MS student and family handbook. This handbook serves to provide a normed resource for all Lanier MS stakeholders to reference for answers and information about some of the most common, but essential questions and areas of interest. While this is not an exhaustive document nor does it supersede HISD board policy, state, and federal education laws we hope you find it helpful and informative as you navigate your journey as a Purple Pup.
Lanier now has its very own textile recycling bin!
Green City Recycler is dedicated to keeping textiles out of landfills and giving them a second life.
Here’s how it works: For every pound of textiles donated by the Lanier community, the school earns 10 cents. That may not sound like much, but those small amounts really add up!
So, if you have any textiles (clothes, shoes, linens, etc.) that aren’t in good enough condition to donate elsewhere, don’t toss them, recycle them in the bin! Every item helps the environment and supports our school.
Bin location: Next to the bus entrance on Harold Street.
Please consider donating something from our wonderful teachers Amazon wishlists.
As always tissues and pencils are greatly appreciated too. You can drop them off at the front desk with the cluster and/or teacher you are giving them to.
We have kicked off the 2025/26 Raise Your Paws for a Cause Annual Fund Campaign
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, Lanier continues to reach new heights. We’re proud to recognize the following corporate sponsors for their outstanding commitment to our school.
