Lanier Fun Fact
Lanier has had upgrades and improvements in it's 100-year history. It is so nice to have old photos that show the history of change. Currently the front along with all the campus has had major tree work, in order to keep Lanier a showcase in the neighborhood. The date for the black and white photos is unknown but here is a little before and after.
If you know anyone who attended Lanier and would like to share any memorabilia please have them email purplepage@lanierpto.org
It is so fun being able to share these memories with the Lanier community.
Lanier Spotlight
Ms. Silva
Ms. Silva is one of Lanier's 7th grade math teachers. This is her first year with Lanier and 7th year in education. She has worked in other districts where she taught social studies, English language arts and math. Ms. Silva attended Notre Dame University where she received a degree in political science and pre-med. She received her master's degree in public health at the University of Southern California.
Ms. Silva was born in Houston and soon after her family moved to Chicago. She grew up in Chicago and moved back to Houston 12 years ago. Before teaching she was a foster parent to a total of 21 children. She worked with the non-profit organization Casa de Esperanza de los Ninos.
In her free time Ms. Silva enjoys Pilates. She is a certified Pilates instructor and teaches classes on the weekends. She is a dog mom to Nylah and Lily. One a black lab and the other an Australian Kelpie. She enjoys being outside and taking walks. She also enjoys traveling, both to Mexico to visit her parents and Chicago to see family.
Ms. Silva truly loves her students and the Lanier community. She goes above and beyond and puts in extra effort to make her students feel special. As an example she will take turns adding the native languages of her students to her slides. Besides both English and Spanish, she will add Polish or Ukrainian or whatever language her students speak. Without a doubt, a way to make everyone feel special. She has a great rapport with the students which was seen first-hand as students stopped by just to tell her hello. Ms. Silva works with a great group of math teachers, and she loves her cluster group as well. She is a wonderful member of the Lanier family. Thank you, Ms. Silva, for all your hard work and dedication to our students.
What's Going on in the Halls?
7th grade math is displaying knowledge of note taking. This skill is so important, and these students are doing a phenomenal job.

Each AP was gifted lunch and brownies along with a gift card and Lanier coffee tumbler.
Thank you Ms. Bolen, Mr. Espinoza, Mr. Cuevas, Ms. Pitt and Mr. Lofton.
Not pictured is Mr. Lyons. He was so busy taking care of business his gifts had to be delivered later.

Lanier MS Student and Family Handbook
If you have questions, please consider looking through the handbook. Lots of answers found here!!!
Family Handbook
We are pleased to share the 2025-2026 Lanier MS student and family handbook. This handbook serves to provide a normed resource for all Lanier MS stakeholders to reference for answers and information about some of the most common, but essential questions and areas of interest. While this is not an exhaustive document nor does it supersede HISD board policy, state, and federal education laws we hope you find it helpful and informative as you navigate your journey as a Purple Pup.
Lanier now has its very own textile recycling bin!
Green City Recycler is dedicated to keeping textiles out of landfills and giving them a second life.
Here’s how it works: For every pound of textiles donated by the Lanier community, the school earns 10 cents. That may not sound like much, but those small amounts really add up!
So, if you have any textiles (clothes, shoes, linens, etc.) that aren’t in good enough condition to donate elsewhere, don’t toss them, recycle them in the bin! Every item helps the environment and supports our school.
Bin location: Next to the bus entrance on Harold Street.
Please consider donating something from our wonderful teachers Amazon wishlists.
As always tissues and pencils are greatly appreciated too. You can drop them off at the front desk with the cluster and/or teacher you are giving them to.
We have kicked off the 2025/26 Raise Your Paws for a Cause Annual Fund Campaign
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, Lanier continues to reach new heights. We’re proud to recognize the following corporate sponsors for their outstanding commitment to our school.
